For People with Ongoing Health Conditions

Do you have an ongoing health condition such as arthritis, chronic lung disease, depression, diabetes, heart disease, or high blood pressure? Do you care for a loved one with a chronic condition?

If so, the Better Choices, Better Health Workshop at FPC can help you take charge of your life.

You will:
• Get the support you need
• Find practical ways to deal with pain and fatigue
• Discover eating and exercise choices
• Understand how to live with difficult emotions
• Learn better ways to talk with your doctor and family about your health

Arcadia Vacation Bible School
June 18-22 from 1 - 4:00 p.m.

Help the children of Arcadia Elementary and the Boys & Girls Club through our mission Vacation Bible School. Volunteers are needed to guide, teach, and play with these children! Share part of one day, a full day, or all five!

Subject: VBS Needs Donations

The FPC Vacation Bible School Committee is in need of supplies you may have around the house.  If you are willing to donate any of the following items for our Vacation Bible School this year, please bring them to the stage of the Social Hall by Wednesday, May 23.  

Donations needed:

  • Swim Noodles (any color)
  • Mesh Bath Sponges/Loofahs
  • Bubble Machine
  • Fishing Net
  • Inflatable Fish
  • Flat bed sheets - solid colors, non-returnable
  • Scuba Gear - flippers, masks, wetsuit, etc
  • Clear 2 liter plastic bottles
  • Large Styrofoam Cooler
  • Fish Bowls & Rocks

Join others in our congregation as we seek to read through the entire Bible in 2012. (See page 5 for daily reading schedule.) These monthly classes enrich those readings by exploring key themes and content of that months readings and providing encouragement for the journey.

Subject:  Welcome Dr. Bill Wood, Interim Pastor

William P. WoodThe Interim Pastor Nomination Committee and the Session of First Presbyterian Church are pleased to announce that Dr. William P. Wood, formerly Senior Minister of the First Presbyterian Church of Charlotte, N.C. has accepted the position of Interim Pastor. His first Sunday will be November 6, 2011.

Bill is a graduate of Davidson College, Davidson, N.C. and Union Theological Seminary of Richmond, Virginia. He concluded his 27 year ministry at First Presbyterian Church of Charlotte in 2010. He previously served churches in San Antonio, Texas and Kingsport, Tennessee. He has been active in the life of the Presbyterian Church (USA) serving as the Moderator of Holston Presbytery and Charlotte Presbytery. In addition he has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Davidson College and Union Theological Seminary in Virginia.

Bill has been a strong participant in many community activities in Charlotte. He has served as President of the Rotary Club of Charlotte and President of the Charlotte City Club. In addition he has served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Charlotte Center of Urban Ministry and as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the City of Charlotte/Mecklenburg County Public Library.

Please welcome Bill to our church family as he helps guide us to our next permanent Senior Pastor.

(Sunday, June 3)

The first Sunday of every month is Hunger Relief Sunday. Remember to bring canned goods and loose change to worship. As we celebrate Communion together, let us serve others through our gifts. Containers are located at the entrances to the Sanctuary and the Family Life Center.

• Peanut butter
• Canned meat
• Beef stew
• Family size rice and beans
