About Us
We exist to glorify God and share Christ together through word and deed.

Who We Are
We are a community of believers in the heart of Spartanburg seeking to know and share the transformative love of Jesus Christ with others.
In 1843, eight Presbyterians gathered in a home on Main Street in Spartanburg. After signing a covenant that bound them together as a church, they adjourned for preaching and the celebration of the Lord’s Supper. From that simple and sacred beginning, First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg was born — the first Presbyterian congregation in our town.
Nearly two centuries later, we remain rooted in that same covenantal spirit. What began as a small gathering of believers has grown into a vibrant, Christ-centered community seeking to shine the light of Christ in Spartanburg and beyond. We strive to be a life-giving presence — growing in faith, worshiping God with joy, and sharing the transformative love of Jesus Christ in word and deed.
We believe God continues to call us to build up the Church by embodying the love of Christ. Wherever you are on your journey of faith, there is a place for you here. Whether you are visiting for the first time or have worshiped with us for years, our prayer is that you will encounter authentic joy in this community — the kind of joy that reflects a life changed by Jesus and overflows into love for others.

Our Values
We serve a God who loves us unconditionally and is worthy of the best that we can offer. Because of this, we are intentional and faithful in how we worship and how we love one another.
Worship
We worship in the tradition of the Presbyterian Church, through singing, prayers, proclaming God’s Word, and the sacraments of baptism and the Lord's Supper.
Generosity
We respond to God’s love by giving generously through the church, joyfully and faithfully, creating opportunities for people to experience a life-changing encounter with Jesus.
Service
Jesus did not come to be served but to serve. We model Christ when we use our time and talents to share his love in the church, our community, and around the world.
Growth
We create an environment where individuals can grow spiritually and deepen their faith by not only reading and studying God’s Word, but also letting it transform their lives.
Fellowship
Our discipleship and spiritual growth happens best in community with others, by gathering for worship, studying Scripture, eating together, and encouraging one another.
Love
We show love by coming together to worship God as one, welcoming all people, bridging racial, social and political divides, and accepting others as they are.
