Director of Hospitality – Job Description


To glorify God through the ministry of hospitality, with Christlike actions and dependence on the Holy Spirit.

General Description of Position:

Director of hospitality is a ministry for someone who loves God, loves people, has high energy and the ability to manage diverse teams of volunteers and staff in order to serve our congregation and guests. This is achieved through coordination of work from the staff, custodial team and volunteers as they plan and prepare food and beverage as well as prepare the church facility for use. Events include regular programs such as Wednesdays at First (WAF), prayer breakfasts, committee meeting snacks and beverages, etc. Also, the candidate must be able to prepare and plan for special events such as Presbytery Meetings, annual lunches for church organizations and special seasonal events.

List of Responsibilities:

  • Determines what extent of staff and volunteers are needed for food events
  • In coordination with Facilities Administrator, insures clean and hospitable surroundings by working with volunteer members and custodial staff in setting up and cleaning
  • Shows courtesy, efficiency and creativity and is able to acknowledge the constraints of church resources in responding to requests for food, receptions and meals.


  • Plans menus, purchases products and ingredients
  • Coordinates WAF kitchen volunteers with WAF committee and makes sure that everyone is fully trained on what the expectations are for each event
  • Manages budget and expenses in coordination with FPC Financial office
  • Attends staff meetings, WAF Committee meetings, Fellowship/Special Event Committee meetings
  • Prepares weekend checklist for custodians

Skills, Education, Training Required for this position:

  • Make everyone feel welcome by sharing a Christlike presence as they efficiently manage and balance the demands of coordinating large and small events.
  • Effective communication skills as you work with congregation, volunteers and members of community
  • Flexibility in work schedule understanding that some weeks will require more hours, i.e. Christmas and Easter celebrations, VBS, etc.
  • An understanding and willingness to always reach for high standards of excellence
  • ServSafe Certification
  • Organizational Skills; knowledge and use of Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, WORD, Excel); ShelbyNext (will train)


  • Annual salary range for this twelve-month, full-time position is in the low-to-mid-$40s. Benefit package is competitive and traditional: FICA, medical insurance, participation in retirement plan, major holidays, vacation.
