Have you ever wondered about the technology that enables our worship services, both online and inside the worship spaces? In The Wizard of Oz, Toto pulled back the curtain and let everyone see what made the “Great and Powerful Oz” happen, and we want to do the same for you! Whether you are just curious about what it takes or you want to help to make it happen, the AV Team invites you to a series of virtual tours of the equipment and software used in the Sanctuary and Fogartie Hall.

Join the live Zoom sessions each Thursday at 5:30pm until Nov. 5, 2020. A brief schedule is below with descriptions and recordings of each virtual tour appearing further down this page.

Intro to ProPresenter 7 (Projections and livestream overlays)

ProPresenter 7 is used for worship projections and for the text and graphic overlays placed over live video in the livestream to show song lyrics, liturgy, Bible readings and other content. FPC has used ProPresenter 6 in MorningSong since 2016. After the COVID-19 pandemic required us to move to livestreamed services only, we also began using ProPresenter 6 in the Sanctuary for "lower third" overlays in the livestream. Version 7 of ProPresenter was released in January 2020 and is a major revision of how the software works, with some useful new features that enable us to maintain a quality online experience for both our in-person and livestream worship participants.

Below is a quick introduction to the ProPresenter 7 interface put together by Renewed Vision, the company behind ProPresenter.

Other videos walking through ProPresenter 7 in more detail are available in Renewed Vision's ProPresenter 7 YouTube playlist.

The video below goes through some of the basic terms and concepts used in ProPresenter 7

The video below goes through the interface of ProPresenter 7.

Basic Video Switching (Changing between cameras & other video sources)

Our church uses a video switcher in both the Sanctuary and Fogartie Hall to manage the video that gets sent to projectors, TV monitors, and the livestream. Video switchers take multiple video inputs and cleanly switch between them and/or overlay them into one or more video outputs. Watch below for a basic introduction to how our ATEM video switchers work.

Livestreaming & Camera Control (Getting the right shots & getting it out to the world)

This virtual tour covers the Livestream Studio software we use to send streaming video to the church website, Facebook, and YouTube. We will also look at the controllers used to aim and zoom the cameras in both the Sanctuary and Fogartie Hall.

Basic Audio Mixing (Making sure everyone in the room & online can hear)

Good mixing of audio from multiple microphones, instruments, and other sources is essential to making worship happen both in the worship space and online. In this virtual tour Todd Camp goes through the basics of the mixers used in both the Sanctuary and Fogartie Hall.

Making Changes in ProPresenter 7 (Editing & creating content)

In this second virtual tour of ProPresenter 7, we explore how content is created and modified (fixed!) in ProPresenter. This is a behind the scenes look at what happens during the week to get ready for Sunday, and also what our operators sometimes do right before (or even during) a service to make sure the right content gets shown on screen and in the livestream.

In addition to the live Zoom virtual tour, the video below from Renewed Vision give a great introduction to ProPresenter 7 and how to import and edit content.

Live on Zoom October 15, 2020 at 5:30pm

Pastor Craig walks though setting up a complete MorningSong service in ProPresenter 7.

Intermediate Video Switching (Managing audio, video routing & upstream keys)

Video switchers can be pretty simple to operate but also have some advanced capabilities that add a bit of complexity but allow some great functionality. This virtual tour offers a peak at what happens during the week to setup our video systems for worship services and other events.

VIDEO COMING SOON!

Environmental Projection (Painting the wall in Fogartie with projections)

Environmental projection uses projected images and video to paint large areas of architectural space with projected colors, textures, images, and videos. Multiple video projectors are seamlessly stitched together to cover large areas with a continuous image. Fogartie Hall is setup with three video projectors that work together to project onto the all or part of the entire front wall of the room. This video tour offers an introduction to the ProVideoPlayer software used to control environmental projection in Fogartie Hall.

VIDEO COMING SOON!

Controls, Lighting & the Little Mixers (What you need to know to run AV all by yourself)

This final virtual tour looks at the controls used in the Sanctuary and Fogartie Hall to turn on and off equipment, change inputs on the projectors, adjust lighting using the light consoles, and use the compact and simple mixer remote controls for simpler events with only one dedicated AV operator (or no dedicated operator!)
