Pastoral Counseling

A Safe and Welcoming Space

We have established a Pastoral Counseling Office that offers a safe and welcoming space in which members may come to navigate life’s challenges. We offer compassionate care for mind, body, and soul.

Ours is an environment where you will be respected and heard. By providing the services of a Pastoral Counselor, our members are given the opportunity to approach issues through the lens of their faith. Our Pastoral Counselor, Rev. Heidi Campbell-Robinson, is a trained and credentialed psychotherapist. She sees individuals, couples, and families. The typical age-range is college and older. She works with a wide variety of issues including:

  • Anxiety
  • Aging
  • Caretaking
  • Depression
  • Grief
  • Life transitions
  • Managing College
  • Marital
  • Pre-marital
  • Self-esteem
  • Questions of Faith, Meaning, and Purpose

How is Pastoral Counseling distinctive?
Pastoral Counseling is a unique form of psychotherapy that integrates faith with psychological insights to support mental and emotional healing. Unlike traditional secular counseling, it explicitly incorporates a person's faith and beliefs into the therapeutic process. Pastoral Counselors are ordained clergy who have significant training in psychotherapy.  They typically hold advanced degrees and credentials.

Our Policies and Fees
Persons are seen on an appointment basis. There is a fee for pastoral counseling sessions. Paying a fee helps to underwrite the cost of this ministry and also serves to invite personal investment in the counseling process. The church has set the fee based on the national norm with a discount for First Presbyterian Church members. A sliding scale based on family income is offered if the standard fee is not affordable.

In light of offering a sliding scale rather than accepting insurance, we are able to operate independently of insurance panels. We prioritize your care and privacy over managed care restrictions. This allows us to offer personalized and confidential therapy rather than assigning insurance-mandated diagnoses.  We are able to put our time into quality therapy rather than in completing extensive insurance paperwork. The standard fee is $135 per session and the sliding scale begins at $45.  Payment is made during your counseling session and is payable to First Presbyterian Church via check or credit card.

It is our goal for anyone who is in need to be able to access pastoral counseling.  If there is a temporary inability to pay, we are still here for you. Please do not hesitate to make an appointment to discuss your circumstances.

Pastoral Counseling is a completely Confidential Ministry.

Location Our Pastoral Counseling Office is located in Room 2022, just past the Shepherd Center offices and across from the Heritage Chapel.  The office is in our main building…you can take the elevator or stairs to the second floor.  If you happen to arrive early for an appointment, you are welcome to pray or meditate in the Heritage Chapel.

Appointments Appointments are available on Mondays, Tuesdays, and some Wednesdays.  To make an appointment, please email the Reverend Heidi Campbell-Robinson at [email protected] or call 864-208-2250
