Summer 2026 Adult Sunday School – Begins May 31

Join us in the Purnell Room each Sunday, May 31-August 23 at 10:00am as we explore the intersection of faith and art in our combined summer 2026 adult Sunday School series, Psalms and the Art of Faith.

Psalms and the Art of Faith

The Bible describes God as Creator, and we who have been created in God’s image have God’s creative spark implanted within us. Storytellers and poets told God’s story for generations before they were written down. Weavers, wood carvers, metal sculptors, and other artists were given creative gifts by God to build the Tabernacle, the Ark of the Covenant, and the Temple. Poets delved the depths of life and faith, expressing raw and deep emotion through metaphor and images in the Psalms and Wisdom Literature. And throughout history, our Creator’s creative spark has inspired artists to create all kinds of art that powerfully reflect the beauty of creation, the full range of human experiences, and truths that can often be expressed in no other ways.

This summer as we explore the Psalms in worship, we also will hear from the rich variety of artists in our congregation in Sunday School. They will share some of their art and pull the curtain back on the creative process and the place of God and faith in the art that they create. Along the way we will also explore the artistry of the Psalms themselves, and how the Psalms inspire God’s people in music and in prayer.
