The Promise of Light

Scripture: Isaiah 9:2-7

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness – on them light has shined. Isaiah 9:2

As twinkling lights decorate our communities and holiday music fills our homes and churches, we find ourselves embracing the sentimental happiness of the season. As children of God, we know the message of Advent is not superficial but one of hope. Jesus came to earth to bring light to those in darkness. His very life was the light for all people.

We have faced challenges in the last 18 months that were overwhelming in loss and confusion. However, as children of God, we realize maintaining our faith is an example of God’s light working its way into and through our hearts. Maintaining faith through months of challenges brought by the pandemic is an example of God’s light shining on us and through us.

May the light of God’s love seep deep into our souls so that peace and joy are our gifts and our treasures.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, fill us with your love so we may be lights for others. Amen.
