With gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs to God. Colossians 3:15-17

What a blessed task we have been given to use our gifts to share God’s word with others. In 2008, members of our congregation traveled to Scotland. There was a choir consisting of First Pres. choir members, singers from other denominations and people who never joined our choir but loved to sing. Spirits, both ours and the congregation’s, were lifted at each church concert we sang. Each musical piece painted a picture of God’s love and compassion. The trip was going well and the people we met were kind and appreciative.

Then came the trip to Iona, a beautiful area accessible only by ferry. As we stepped onto the isle we seemed to be transported to another place and time, one of calm and peace. As we made our way to the church, we passed ages old gravestones and beautiful statues. Entering the church, a sense of reverent expectation came over us. As we took our places to sing, the small sanctuary was nearly empty. No matter, we began our concert awed by the ancient worship space. As our choir lifted our voices, we were awed by the peace of this holy place. As the last notes were sung, we looked up to see every pew filled.

To be able to share our faith through music with others in a country far from home was a blessing we will carry with us always.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, please help us to be open and willing to use our talents to share your love with others. Amen
