Witness Season February 2025
To witness means to have and share knowledge from personal observation or experience. Every February, First Presbyterian Church participates in “Witness Season”, when we choose a project that we believe reflects the mission and witness of Jesus Christ in the world. These projects are a witness to the faith in action that is happening through one of mission partners. This year, it was particularly on our hearts to search for ways that we could help rebuild after Hurricane Helene.
Hurricane Helene caused significant damage to Montreat Camp and Conference Center, a place that is near and dear to many of our hearts. When asking partners in North Carolina what the needs were, Montreat requested help with rebuilding the bridge to Robert Lake Park. There was substantial damage to the boardwalk that crosses Flat Creek and provides access for all people from the Anderson Auditorium parking lot. If this boardwalk is not available, individuals with need for on-grade accessibility, especially those utilizing wheelchairs, walkers, or strollers, would have to walk down the side of Texas Road nearly one-quarter mile to enter the park. Due to other damage from a previous storm, Montreat wishes to build a more sustainable walkway in a new location to minimize future flood damage and to grant access for all. This year, our goal is to raise $25,000 for the new boardwalk and additional funds will be used for the proposed mural along the boardwalk ($7,000). We hope you’ll contribute to this important project, and that you’ll come to hear more on Witness Season Sunday, February 16th!
